I don’t know about your corner of the world but here in our little town? (Okay – the enitre county…) September means a few things – other than the obvious – the college kids come back to town, Bebop and Brew followed by Blues by the Bay, Christmas decorations start to appear (what is up with that???) and most importantly?
Youth Soccer…we embrace it with an almost religious reverance…truly we do…I think in part because we can play it in the fog…but that’s just me…
So this weekend was opening day…and I know what you are thinking…they have no little ones at home…they have no Little Man running hither and yon…the boy child is now a man and plays basketball at the college…so ummmmmm we care why?
Master followed Youth Soccer from Ohio due to my son’s participation. He (my son) has played since he was four and still plays on an indor league in the off season…Master coached my son’s last year in the league as well as coaching two years of the Little Man’s team so this year? We have not a single child involved and yet Master is sponsoring two teams and coaching a third. It works out because the two teams he is sponsoring are traveling teams (meaning they play up and down the state and never here in town) so there is no conflict with the team he coaches. The team he is coaching?
4 & 5 year old little girls….yup….with their pink and white uniforms, pink and lilac striped socks, pink cleats and hot pink soccer balls…little girls…it is just too cute. It’s what you get when you say ‘I am willing to take a team – let me know where you need me to be’
He loves his girlies and they adore ‘coach’ and it is too sweet to watch them at practices. He says it’s like herding cats…
This morning they presented Him with a team jacket – white with pink trim…pink satin trim…and the team name? Privately they are the princessess but on the field they are the Blaze…I am not clear as to why.
The funniest part of this morning was when He said ‘Dominate’ as they broke from the team huddle and the girls walked across the field yealling ‘donimate….donimate…’ One of the little ones asked another ‘what’s donimate mean?’ the response? ‘I don’t know but Mister Coach really likes to do it…’
We did not win – as no one wins or loses in this age group – but we did score two more goals than the other team….
I fear all this pinkness may kill Him…and I see lots of beating in my future to balance the cuteness…
I love this time of year….
god caitlin i needed a laugh this morning…..pink you say eh???? i can picture it.. oh god can i ever !!!
i never did understand soccer and had no interest in it till my lil grandson started .. at age 4.. i laughed till i cried watching him try and figure out the rules… and when one lil guy from the other team came after the ball .. my lil grandson gave it to him.. when asked why?? his answer – well mommy told me i HAVE to share !!!!
and getting back to the pink for a minute.. one Easter my baby daughter wore pink bunny ears to the house for Easter dinner …….. and the lil guy (mentioned above) put them on Sir.. i managed to snap a picture of my Sir in pink bunny ears………… every so often i threaten as only a subbie can to post it on my blog !!!
thanks again for the laugh and for the memories..

Awwwww…
One of the things that I learned, as I came into Master’s life, was the role of soccer “parent.” His son played in a variety of levels, indoor and out, all the way through high school — and we were always there on the sidelines, rain or shine. It was one of those places where no one was ever able to really explain my presence — and after awhile, they all just quit trying. It became the “normal” thing for the boychick to have his mom, dad, stepmom, and sue at his games.
Great image! Thanks for sharing, and all the very best of luck to The Blaze!
